Animal Welfare
Our wool suppliers production facilities are certified Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). The RWS protocol guarantees the complete traceability of raw materials and supply chain, it certifies that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly.
The protection of soil health, biodiversity and native species, as well as the responsible treatment of the animals that
have to be free from all deprivation, are essential.
Our shoes and handbags are made with full grain aniline cow hide. Our leather is sourced locally (99%). The leather used is a by-product of the meat-industry.
For this reason you will find natural markings on the leather. Cows are not farmed specifically for their leather. We do not over produce and our accessories are available in classic styles only to ensure once the customer owns the item it will stay in use for a very long time.
We have some Piñatex in our accessory collection, Piñatex is a non-biodegradable leather alternative made from cellulose fibres extracted from pineapple leaves, PLA, and petroleum-based resin.
We were very excited about the development of this vegan leather and considered using it more throughout our accessory collection. Even though it is not widely available in South Africa, we have decided against using this alternative as it is not biodegradable and goes against one of our core values which is using natural fabrics exclusively that do biodegrade.
We are excited about future developments in the vegan leather industry but for now we only have access to animal leather.
